Karrié Baugesellschaften: successful investor process

In the autumn of 2025, the District Court of Mainz ordered a provisional insolvency process for Karrié Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH and for its parent company, Karrié Bau GmbH. In both cases, the Court appointed Götz Lautenbach, a lawyer from BBL, as provisional insolvency administrator.

The reasons for the insolvency application were multifaceted. Firstly, there had been significant increases in purchase prices, which could not be passed on in full to clients. In addition, there had been delays in projects due to bad weather and problems related to planning and approval. This was compounded by the unexpected departures of staff from one of Karrié Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH’s offices.

It was possible to stabilise the business and process existing orders. New orders continued to be accepted. The company management and the provisional insolvency administrator had intensive discussions with key clients, suppliers and subcontractors over the long-term continuation of operational activities at the two companies.

Added to this, an investor process was instigated: this was overseen by Philippe Piscol, Partner and Head of Distressed M&A at Dr. Wieselhuber & Partner GmbH. At the beginning of 2026, it was possible to sign an agreement with ZECH Bau SE and Wayss & Freytag Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH, both subsidiaries of the Zech Group SE in the Zech Building SE division, based in Bremen, to take over the employees, numbering around 320, and moveable assets of the insolvent Karrié Baugesellschaft and Karrié Bauwerkserhaltung construction companies.

Karrié Bau GmbH is an owner-operated construction company based in Mainz: its subsidiary company Karrié Bauwerkserhaltung GmbH maintains branches in Munich, Stuttgart, Recklinghausen, Erfurt und Hamburg. In the last full financial year, the two companies generated a turnover of around €77 million.
